For this production you must audition. Send an email to so that we can register you and give you an audition time and slot.

The audition will be on your own with the ‘panel’. The panel will be some people from the staff and volunteers of Crooked House. They will all be gentle and welcoming.

You will need to be aged between 13 and 25.

Choose one of the speeches below. We would like you to perform your own interpretation of it. You may use the text during the audition, but you should be familiar with it. Do what you like with this text but try to communicate the truth of it as you see it.

Text 1:

In sooth, I know not why I am so sad.

It wearies me; you say it wearies you.

But how I caught it, found it, or came by it,

What stuff ’tis made of, whereof it is born,

I am to learn.

And such a want-wit sadness makes of me,

That I have much ado to know myself.

Text 2:

I am sorry thou wilt leave my father so:

Our house is hell, and thou, a merry devil,

Didst rob it of some taste of tediousness.

But fare thee well, there is a ducat for thee:

And, Launcelot, soon at supper shalt thou

Lorenzo, who is thy new master's guest:

Give him this letter; do it secretly;

And so farewell: I would not have my father

See me in talk with thee.

Auditions will take place on Sunday, 11th October. You will be given a 10-minute slot

somewhere between 4.00pm and 5.30pm.

After your audition, you will be contacted on whether or not you have successful by the 14th of October.
