Vasileios Krikis was one of our Erasmus+ Student Traineeships in our 2024-25 programme. This is a reflection he wrote during his time here in May 2025. (Pictured: 2021 Volunteer Group)
My name is Vasileios Krikis and I’m a 22 years old Student Trainee under Erasmus+ in the Theatre Crooked House. I’m originally from Patras, Greece and I study Theatre Studies in the University of Patras. Currently (Spring 2025) I’m in my last semester and I decided to apply for a traineeship under Erasmus+. In my department both traineeship inside the country and traineeship under Erasmus+ are optional but I chose to apply for the latter so I can gain both experience and improve my language skills.
The procedure to apply for Erasmus+ was somewhat complex. I had to undergo an interview with the people responsible for the Erasmus movement in my department. As soon as the results were published and I was eligible, I had my interview with Crooked House and then I had to fill some important documents about financing, housing, the ECTS, and the Learning Agreement, the acceptance letter signed from me, the Volunteer manager in Crooked House, and the Erasmus+ staff in my department. All these documents I had to send to the Department of International Affairs at the University of Patras.
At Crooked House Theatre Company I’m facilitating groups, attending workshops, meetings and rehearsals, and rehearsing and performing in various projects. I have already performed on stage as part of the support group with KARE workshop (people with additional needs), and a small role in The Crucible by Artur Miller. I’m currently rehearsing in Macbeth.
I’m attending workshops like Drama Facilitation Training, and a weekly Physical Theatre workshop called Ariel. I’m assisting with the facilitation of a workshop in a local school – the PBS (Patrician Boys school). I’m assisting with the KARE and the Newbridge Women’s Shed workshops – these are all weekly Outreach workshops in the community. All these workshops are amazing and I’m really gaining a lot of experience and surely a lot of memories.
All the volunteers are young people from all over the Mediterranean Sea and they are all warm and friendly. We are a small community with a big personality.
