This week, nine young people from Ireland have travelled to Catalonia to take part in My Passport/My Identity, an Erasmus+ funded youth exchange focused on culture, language, and identity.
The project is a collaboration between Crooked House Theatre Company (Ireland), Escola Teatre de la Seu d’Urgell (Catalonia), and URDD Youth Organisation (Wales). It brings together young people aged 15–17 to explore the link between minority languages and cultural identity through original theatre-making.
Since mid-July, the Irish group has been developing a theatre piece in Irish to perform at the Minority Language Theatre Festival in Catalonia. From 11–18th of August 2025, they will join Catalan and Welsh peers to share their work and collaborate on new multilingual performances celebrating Europe’s linguistic diversity.
Upon returning home, participants will reflect on their experience and stage local performances. They will also meet with Irish language advocates and policymakers to share their insights and highlight the importance of supporting minority language communities.
Led by young people and facilitated by Crooked House staff, the project encourages youth to become creative leaders and cultural ambassadors, using theatre as a platform for social change and cross-cultural connection.
